Holidays offer a well-deserved break from work; a chance to spend time with family and friends or observe festive and historic traditions. But a holiday can hamper your banking plans when your bank is closed on your day off. How can you bank on your schedule?

New Year’s Day (Monday, January 1)
Our advice centres/branches and call centres are closed on New Year’s Day, January 1st.
Canada observes New Year’s Day as a holiday. What a perfect day to start with your new financial resolutions!
Fun Fact: While we celebrate New Year’s Day on January 1, many cultures observe New Year’s Day at different points of the year too.
Family Day (Monday, February 19)
Our advice centres/branches are closed on Family Day but our call centre is open to serve you from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Many provinces observe Family Day as a holiday. First observed in 2007, this special holiday lets us spend time with our families and loved ones. Some provinces add special meaning to the day by celebrating their heritage, notable people, and events.
Fun Fact: Former Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert introduced Family Day to provide a break between New Year’s Day and Good Friday.
Good Friday (Friday, March 29)
Our advice centres/branches are closed on Good Friday but our call centre is open to serve you from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Good Friday falls on the Friday right before Easter Sunday. It is a public holiday across the country. Most organizations and schools remain closed on this day.
Fun Fact: There are many different theories behind the name ‘Good Friday’. Some suggest the day gets its name from ‘God’s Friday’, being a holy day. Others point to Christians believing that the day is a ‘good’ day as it marks Jesus’ sacrifice to redeem mankind’s sins.
Victoria Day (Monday, May 20)
Our advice centres/branches are closed on Victoria Day but our call centre is open to serve you from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Victoria Day falls on the Monday right before May 25. It is a holiday throughout the country (except in New Brunswick). We observe Victoria Day to honour Queen Victoria’s birthday. She was one of the longest-reigning British monarchs. This day is also one of the oldest non-religious holidays in the country.
Fun Fact: Since Victoria Day always falls on a Monday, it creates a long weekend. As a result, many people call it May Long or May Run.
Canada Day (Monday, July 1)

Canada Day is our country’s national day. It celebrates the anniversary of the Canadian confederation, first signed on July 1, 1987. Fun Fact: Canada Day used to be called Dominion Day.
Saskatchewan Day (Monday, August 5)

We observe Saskatchewan Day on the first Monday of every August. It’s a unique holiday because it does not mark a religious or historic occasion. Instead, it is a day for people to spend time with their loved ones and enjoy the short-lived days of summer. First established in 1875, we still observe this holiday to date. It gifts us with a wonderful long weekend in August.
Fun Fact: Saskatchewan Day is often called Civic Day but has a range of names all over the country. For example, it’s called Heritage Day in Alberta, Natal Day in Nova Scotia, Terry Fox Day in Manitoba, and New Brunswick Day in...you guessed it...New Brunswick.
Labour Day (Monday, September 2)

We celebrate Labour Day on the first Monday of September every year. It is a major national holiday we observe across the country. Labour Day also marks the last long weekend of the summer season.
Fun Fact: Football fans eagerly await Labour Day weekend for the Canadian Football League’s Labour Day Classic.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Monday, September 30)
Our advice centres/branches are closed on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our call centre is open to serve you from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation commemorates the unimaginable pain and suffering indigenous people endured from attending a residential school or from the loss of children and family members at the hands of the residential school system.
Interesting Fact: Orange Shirt Day was first observed on September 30, 2013, to honour Indigenous children who were forcibly taken from their families and placed in residential schools in Canada.
Thanksgiving (Monday, October 14)
Our advice centres/branches are closed on Thanksgiving. Our call centre is open to serve you from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
We celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. As the name suggests, the day is set aside to give thanks for all the good things that happened in the year. Traditionally, we give thanks for a successful harvest. But the credit for the holiday also goes to Martin Frobisher. He was an English explorer who held a thanksgiving ceremony to mark a successful voyage.
Fun Fact: The US Thanksgiving holiday was established 43 years after Canadian Thanksgiving.
Remembrance Day (Monday, November 11)
Our advice centres/branches are closed on Remembrance Day. Our call centre is open to serve you from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Remembrance Day falls on November 11 every year. It marks the end of World War I and commemorates all our countrymen who fought in the First World War. It also honours all those who continue to serve our national interest and peace efforts.
Interesting Fact: The Royal Canadian Legion sells replicas of red poppies to mark the day. All sale proceeds of these Remembrance Day symbols go towards supporting veterans.

Christmas is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the world. We observe the main festivities and traditions on Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day (December 25).
Fun Fact: We celebrate Christmas to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. But many of its traditions such as carol-singing and the Christmas Feast are from the pre-Christian era.
