The Alberta Government announced on April 29, 2025, the approval of amendments to the Credit Union (Principal) Regulation, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the regulatory framework governing credit unions in the province.
The Order in Council, which formalizes these amendments, was signed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on April 30th, 2025, with the amendments posted publicly on May 1, 2025 Alberta King's Printer: Orders in Council.
“These amendments reflect the government's commitment to ensuring that Alberta's credit unions operate within a modern and robust regulatory framework. The changes are designed to provide greater clarity and improved operational guidance for credit unions, promoting stability and member confidence”, said ABCU’s Board Chair Richard Colwell.
"The changes to the Alberta Credit Union Act will allow both ABCU and Innovation Federal Credit Union to continue their work on this precedent-setting first interprovincial merger," stated Innovation’s Board Chair Russ Siemens.
